Beginning ASP Databases

"Beginning ASP Databases" by John Kauffman, Kevin Spencer, Thearon Willis
Publisher: Wrox | September 1999 | ISBN: 1861002726 | PDF | 20.22 Mb | 825 Pages

Microsoft created Active Server Pages (ASP) to sew together a group of technologies for creating modern web sites, which can intelligently interact with the user at the front end and with servers and datastores at the back end. Among these technologies is ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), which allows easy, powerful and robust control of technologies that access datastores. This book explains the theory and practice of using ADO with ASP by presenting numerous examples, exercises, lists of common errors and quizzes. The emphasis is on the authors' proven teaching techniques and the presentation of the most commonly used features of ADO in ASP. If you read each chapter and do the exercises you will have a portfolio of several dozen data-intensive web pages of increasing complexity a fine return on your investment.

How to Change Your Life in 7 Steps

In this highly-accessible self-help book, Big Issue founder John Bird explains his seven simple rules that could help you change your life. Whether you want to get a new job, quit smoking, give up drinking or go back to college, "How to Change Your Life in 7 Steps" explains how you can take what you've been given and turn it into something you'll be proud of, rather than spend your life wishing for everything you haven't got. For 99 per cent of us life doesn't come knocking on the door; you have to go out and get it. But the trouble with aiming for the stars is that you're likely to end up in the gutter. John Bird has learnt through his work with the homeless that if you start by putting just 3 per cent of your energy towards your final goal rather than a gutter-hitting 99 per cent you will eventually make the changes you are looking for. John's six other rules are as straightforward as this first one, 'Start With 3 per cent. He writes with passion about the dangers of thinking like a victim and of not telling the truth; he shares with us the importance of thinking for yourself and never putting others down, and he encourages us not to define our successes by the failures of others and to recognise our own achievements.

The Only Astrology book

Swami Sadashiva Tirtha, "The Ayurveda Encyclopedia: Natural Secrets to Healing, Prevention, & Longevity"
Sat Yuga Press | 2007 | ISBN: 0965804259 | 675 pages | PDF | 19,7 MB

Although there is no shortage of books that attempt to explain Ayurveda medicine (a system that originated in India about 5000 years ago) to a popular audience, the author, instructor at the Ayurveda Holistic Health Center in Bayville, NY, claims that this is the first English-language textbook on the subject. However, he does little to simplify this complicated system and goes into too much detail not only for average readers but for health practitioners who want to learn more about this form of treatment. Many of his statements seem far-fetched (e.g., can the color orange really help with menstrual cramps?). Organization is poor; for instance, information on therapies for diabetes is spread throughout the book rather than being concentrated in the section on diseases. Perhaps the most useful information here is the list of Ayurvedic resources and the glossary containing clear definitions of many of the terms used. Better choices for books on Ayurveda medicine include titles by Vasant Lad (Ayurveda: The Science of Self Healing, Lotus Light, 1990) and Deepak Chopra (Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, LJ 6/15/93). Recommended only for libraries with extensive collections in alternative medicine.?Natalie Kupferberg, Arizona State Univ. West, Phoenix

When Rebels Become Stakeholders: Democracy, Agency and Social Change in India

Prof. Subrata K. Mitra, V. B. Singh, "When Rebels Become Stakeholders: Democracy, Agency and Social Change in India"
Sage Publications Pvt. Ltd 2009 | ISBN-10: 8178299453 | 344 Pages | PDF | 1,1 MB

When Rebels become Stakeholders: Democracy, Agency and Social Change in India, explores the agency of ordinary men and women in the making of democratic social change in India. The study is specific to India, but the issues are of general interest, particularly for the comparative politics of democratic social change.

In contrast to the majority of post-colonial states, India has achieved both democracy and social change. The authors focus on the political skills of India's voters and their leaders, instead of the essence of Indian culture to explain this remarkable phenomenon. The study draws on public opinion data on political information, attitudes, values and participation, derived from three national surveys of the Indian electorate held in 1971, 1996 and 2004, to explain this complex theme. It specifies the two main puzzles-the instrumentality of electoral agency in the making of India's social revolution, and implications of the findings of the study for the theory of democratic social change that underpin the study. The author provides an analysis of the empirical results, a resume of the empirical findings, theoretical implications of those findings for democracy and social change, questionnaires, explanation of the research designs used in the surveys, and the method of data collection.
